Matt Elkin is an assistant men's basketball coach at Stanford University, where he returned to Kyle Smith's staff in April 2026 for his second stint with the Cardinal.

Help as many people as possible, nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care, help people realize their own greatness and achieve things they could only dream of.

Becoming entrenched at Stanford or known as the go-to expert on high academic basketball. Also be a head coach one day.

Youth, HS, and college aged players as well as beyond into their young adulthood.
Cultural Impact
I have built meaningful relationships with lots of players and coaches. But also, my role with the Jewish Coaches Association is also directly helping so many people connect to their culture
Recognition
Coaching Career & Experience
- Stanford University: Named assistant coach in April 2026. He previously spent the 2024–25 season with the Cardinal as an assistant recruiting coordinator.
- Columbia University: Served as an assistant coach for the Lions during the 2025–26 season, helping lead the team to a 16–12 record, Columbia’s winningest season in a decade.
- Yale University: Spent four seasons (2020–2024) as the Director of Basketball Operations. During his tenure, he was part of three Ivy League Championship teams and went to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2024.
- Team USA (Maccabiah Games): Served as an assistant coach for the U18 boys' basketball team, helping guide the American delegation to a gold medal victory over Israel at the 2022 World Maccabiah Games.
- Prep & High School Coaching: Worked as an assistant coach at the Windward School in Los Angeles (helping secure a 53–15 record over two seasons) and spent two years as a varsity assistant at Vermont Academy (2016–2018).
- Early Career & Education: Got his start as a student manager at the University of Wisconsin and later at Edgewood College. Elkin earned a Master's degree in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University in 2016 while serving as their graduate manager.
