Six years ago, Martina Anyango picked up a basketball for the first time. On October 5, 2026, the 6-foot-4 forward/center from Soroti, Uganda, officially became a Texas Tech Lady Raider with two seasons of NCAA eligibility, covering 2026–27 and 2027–28.
She comes to Lubbock as one of Africa’s most promising frontcourt talents, with a story every bit as compelling as her résumé. A former volleyball player, Anyango weaponized her elite athleticism into a rapid-fire offensive arsenal, backed by disciplined defense.
Her 2026 season offered a glimpse of what she can bring to Texas Tech.
Anyango helped lead the UCU Lady Canons to a record-extending ninth Ugandan National Basketball League championship, earning NBL Playoffs MVP honors.
Representing her country and UCU, Anyango has competed across Africa, Europe, Asia and South America. She helped UCU become the first African university to reach the semifinals of the FISU University World Cup 3x3, bringing home a bronze medal from Brasília, Brazil. In 2026, she also led UCU to another African university championship in Nigeria, earning tournament MVP and Top Scorer honors.
Along the way, she has competed in Brazil, France, Hungary, Indonesia, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Kenya and Nigeria, testing herself against some of the world’s most accomplished young players and senior national-team athletes.
Martina completed five semesters at Uganda Christian University, and enrolled in Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business, where she plans to graduate with a degree in General Business in May 2028.
She begins her Texas Tech chapter as a champion, an international medalist and a trailblazer for Uganda, with her best basketball still ahead of her!!
