Greg Manning Jr. is an assistant men's basketball coach at Villanova University and a veteran Division I coach with extensive experience in recruiting, scouting, relationship-building, video and advanced preparation, and player development.

Accompanied Kevin Willard to Villanova. First season: 24-9, 15-5 in the Big East, NCAA at-large berth and first Villanova NCAA appearance in four years.
2018-2021: Video Coordinator. Oversaw internal video, advanced scouting, film edits and recruiting materials. Staff reached NCAA second rounds in 2019 and 2021 and won the 2019-20 Big Ten regular-season championship. was canceled.
2021-2023: Director of Basketball Operations. Promoted by Mark Turgeon in April 2021. Added interim assistant-coach duties during 2021-22 after Danny Manning became interim head coach. Maryland returned to the NCAA second round in 2023.
2023-25: Assistant Coach. Elevated to a full assistant role. In 2024-25, Maryland went 27-9, finished second in the Big Ten and reached the Sweet 16. Derik Queen became Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a first-round NBA draft pick.
In the summer of 2015, Manning led a Global Sports Academy team on an eight-day, four-game tour of Croatia, where the group competed against professional teams and traveled throughout the region. The trip included Siena players Marquis Wright and Kenny Wormley and marked Manning’s third international coaching tour in four years, following earlier trips through Belgium, Germany, England, France and the Netherlands.
For Manning, the experience was another opportunity to develop players outside the traditional college setting, exposing them to professional-level competition and a different basketball culture.
In the summer of 2014, while working as an assistant coach for the Siena Saints, Manning organized and coached another European tour. This trip saw him return to Belgium while adding stops in England and France. His roster featured notable college all-stars, including Siena standouts Lavon Long and Javion Ogunyemi, playing developmental showcases against European squads
Jimmy Patsos’ first hire and top lieutenant. Siena won the 2014 CBI championship, reached 21 wins and the MAAC semifinal in 2015-16, and reached the 2017 MAAC championship game. Manning had leadership responsibilities in recruiting, scouting and player development.
Manning coached an 11-player team of top college players against international competition in Germany and Belgium in the summer of 2012.
As a Point Guard / Shooting Guard, Greg played in 92 games, scored 177 points and made 32 three-pointers. Helped Loyola win 58 games during his four-year career as the program improved substantially under Jimmy Patsos.

Family
Basketball runs deep in the Manning family. His father, Greg Manning Sr., played at Maryland for Lefty Driesell and later spent 15 seasons calling Terrapins games on the radio, so Greg Jr. grew up around college basketball long before it became his career. Greg and his wife, Katelyn, welcomed their son, Oliver, in 2025.
Aspirations
Manning has consistently embraced greater responsibility and new challenges, serving as an assistant coach, video coordinator, director of operations, top lieutenant, and high-major assistant. Each role has given him a broader understanding of what it takes to build and lead a successful program.
Leadership
His leadership is grounded in three things: Relationships, Preparation, and Accountability. Having worked across nearly every part of a college program, Manning understands how recruiting, player development, scouting, and daily operations fit together, and what players and staffs need to succeed.

Coach Manning believes in earning the trust of his players and the people closest to them. His coaching experience in Belgium, Germany, England, France, and Croatia brings an international perspective to a career deeply rooted in the Mid-Atlantic basketball community.
Recognition
Manning has earned greater responsibility by becoming a trusted part of successful programs. He helped develop four 1,000-point scorers at Siena, contributed to Maryland’s Big Ten championship and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, and followed Kevin Willard to Villanova, where the Wildcats returned to the NCAA Tournament in his first season.
