THE WORK
Thesline DavidsBorn and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Thesline Davids has emerged as one of the most respected and passionate leaders in African women's basketball. Known for her energy on the sidelines, deep commitment to player development, and unwavering belief in the transformative power of sport, she serves as IPS' Lead Talent Evaluator, Global Basketball.
A former player turned elite coach, Thesline led the University of Pretoria (Tuks) women's basketball program through one of the most remarkable turnarounds in South African university basketball history. Under her leadership, Tuks became a national force, capturing back-to-back USSA 3x3 championships and consistently competing at the highest levels of university basketball in South Africa.
In 2024, Thesline coached the South African national student women's team to an undefeated gold medal performance at the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games hosted in Pretoria. The tournament elevated her national profile and reinforced her reputation as a coach capable of uniting players from different systems, backgrounds, and universities into a cohesive, purpose-driven team.
Her coaching philosophy centers on empowerment, belief, and visibility.
"Basketball has changed my life in a lot of ways. Coaching is a calling. It enables me to positively impact people's lives and help change them."
That philosophy aligns directly with IPS' broader international mission.
At IPS, Thesline plays a leading role in athlete pathway development throughout Africa and beyond, helping identify, mentor, and prepare internationally developed prospects for opportunities within the American college system and global basketball ecosystem.
Her work includes:
- Athlete pathway identification and evaluation
- International readiness preparation
- Mentorship and family guidance
- University relationship development
- Women's basketball advancement initiatives
- Long-term athlete development strategy
Thesline was also instrumental in coordinating the successful U.S. transition of Nigerian prospect Stephanie Okechukwu, helping manage on-the-ground logistics, athlete support, and cross-border coordination efforts during a critical phase of Stephanie's international pathway journey.
Beyond wins and championships, Thesline is widely respected for her advocacy on behalf of women athletes, particularly post players and underrepresented talent competing within systems where opportunities have historically been limited. She consistently champions exposure, education, and international competition as pathways to empowerment, visibility, and long-term growth.
Her leadership style combines intensity, compassion, accountability, and belief. Players regularly describe her as a coach who pushes them to discover a stronger version of themselves while remaining fully invested in their personal journey.
Within IPS, Thesline represents the human side of international player development: mentorship, trust, preparation, and belief. Her presence ensures that IPS remains grounded not only in systems and strategy, but also in the lived experiences of the athletes and families the organization serves.
